This is an amazing mid-fifties number is so representative of that time period. The "New Look" silhouette was in full swing and the excessive use of fabric and the full skirted silhouette is presented beautifully in this dress. The shawl or portrait collar is expansive and covers the entire shoulder - in fact this one sits just off the shoulder allowing for an expanse of bare skin. The full skirt is balanced by a nipped in waist and this is exactly the balance between the shoulder and skirt that one desires with dresses from this period. I love the soft bows that sit at the back of each shoulder - a sweet and feminine touch. The sleeves are to the elbow and the bodice fitted and nipped in at the waist. The full and beautiful skirt shows off the gorgeous black silk to its greatest possible advantage with yards of fabric flowing out from the waist. It is exquisite. Excellent condition
Closes with a back painted metal zipper. Fully lined through the bodice with a muslin inner bodice piece that has boning running through it. The skirt is completely interlined with stiffened netting to hold the shape and fullness. No additional crinolines were used in the styling here. There is one minor pinhole that is strong and stable just under the waist seam - see photo. Priced accordingly. Hand finished. Stunning workmanship.
